In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan (which mean’s “Story” in Persian), a young prince in 6th century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (known as Farah in the Game), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.
Plot (Subject to Possible Change During Production): (don’t read if you want to avoid spoilers!!!)

Incredible news! Congratulations to our girl, who has been officially cast in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, opposite Jake Gyllenhaal! It is truly amazing to see her career grow and expand like this!
Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton will star in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ adaptation of Ubisoft’s popular video game. Mike Newell is directing.
In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.
Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard, Jordan Mechner and Boaz Yakin wrote the script, which is based on the many games created by Jordan Mechner.
Bruckheimer is producing, while Mike Stenson, Chad Oman and Patrick McCormick are exec producing.
Production is set to start in July.

I have added a scan of Gemma from WWD Scoop back from March 2008. She was one of the featured “Girls of Spring”. While it’s not a major piece, Gemma news is quiet right now, so you will probably enjoy the read none the less.

A sequel to last year’s St. Trinian’s movie will be released in 2009. Ealing Studios described St. Trinian’s: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold as a cross between The Goonies and The Da Vinci Code.
Oliver Parker and Barnaby Thompson will again direct, while writers Piers Ashworth and Nick Martin will return to pen the script. Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, Thompson said he hoped cast members Gemma Arterton, Russell Brand and Rupert Everett will also reprise their roles. He told Variety: “It would be good to get the old gang back in.”
The fifth instalment of the series was a box office success last year. Filming on the sequel is scheduled to begin next January.

Gemma Arterton couldn’t stop giggling during her on-screen kiss with Daniel Craig.
The 22-year-old actress - who stars as Agent Fields in new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace - admits she was “immature” during the romantic scene.
She said: “I was giggling left, right and centre and being really immature. I vaguely remember him laughing politely at something stupid I said. I told my mother about the kiss and she was like, ‘Oh my God!’ ”
Gemma also said despite being one of the most talked about actresses of her generation, she isn’t interested in money or fame.
She added to InStyle magazine: “I am from a working class background, so I can’t get my head round spending hundreds of pounds on clothes. I went to a Louis Vuitton party in Paris recently. It was rather posh - I didn’t half feel like a piece of riffraff!”

Sexy Bond girl Gemma Arterton was taught how to milk a cow for her latest screen role.
Gemma, 22, plays MI6 agent Fields in Quantum of Solace and has already shot love scenes with 007 Daniel Craig.
But she needed farmyard skills to play Thomas Hardy’s milkmaid Tess of the D’Ubervilles in a BBC costume drama.
So she went for lessons at a farm near Berkeley, Gloucs, and learned milking techniques on goats.
Farmer Judy King said: “She was a very confident young lady, very down to earth. She just got on with it all. She brought a bit of glamour to the farm, but she’d have a future with livestock if she wasn’t in the movies.”
