BBC1′s adaptation of Tess of the D’Urbervilles saw off a new series of ITV1′s Poirot in the battle of the classic dramas last night, Sunday September 14.
The first instalment of the Thomas Hardy novel adaptation gained 5.7 million and a 24% share in the 9pm hour, while the launch of Agatha Christie’s Poirot picked up 5 million and a 24% share between 9pm and 11pm, according to unofficial overnight figures.
