Gemma Arterton is going to have a crowd of hot beaux panting after her in her next film.

The actors Dominic Cooper and Luke Evans are just two of the men in the life of Tamara Drewe, the character to be played by Gemma in the eponymous film, which Stephen Frears begins filming in the early autumn. Read the rest of this entry »

The September 2009 issue of Empire magazine is already out in the UK and we have exclusive scans for you thanks to Lorna! :)

Not only do we get to know a bit more about Tamina, Gemma’s character, but we’ve also been graced with a new movie still featuring the feisty princess and Prince Dastan!

So who is Tamina?

Special Skills: Swordplay, agility, crawling through small cracks in walls.
How Close to the Games? Tamina is based loosely on the character of Farah. She’s feisty — early on-set footage shows her lunging at the prince with a sword. Her video-game equivalent was an expert archer, but we haven’t yet seen Arterton with a bow.
Persian Pattern: “She’s the princess of Alamut, a country that’s close to Persia, and she gets kidnapped. So I won’t be lacking adventure!” says Arterton. “I’m the only girl in the whole film. It’s a boys’ world, but I’m cool with that.”

Gemma Arterton had a walk on the beach before filming the Clash of the Titans remake in Wales last Saturday. Sam Worthington and Alexa Davalos (in costume) were also present, but can’t be seen in the pictures.

Gemma was accompanied by her sister Hannah.

Along with the two new stills there’s also a clean version of the Poster from the Daily Mail. :)

Drenched Gemma Arterton swept off her feet by Jake Gyllenhaal on Prince of Persia set

A beefed-up Jake Gyllenhaal sweeps Gemma Arterton off her feet as he drags her out of a pool and on to his horse.
The chivalrous scenes show a glimpse of the eagerly anticipated film Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, currently in production.
The pictures show the Brokeback Mountain star and Bond Girl Arterton both drenched from head to foot and then escaping on horseback still soaking wet.
Stunning Arterton plays Princess Tamina who joins forces with Prince Dastan (Gyllenhaal) to protect an ancient dagger that holds the key to the reversal of time.
Set in medieval Persia, the film sees the Prince and Princess work together to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world.
It seems brooding Gyllenhaal, partner of Reese Witherspoon, has been putting a lot of time in at the gym for his role, with the stills revealing his new muscular physique.
His co-star also looks dazzling, wearing her hair in Rapunzel-like plaits and slipping into cultural robes for the Middle Eastern flick.
It also stars Oscar-winning actor Ben Kingsley who puts on his best panto villain look to play evil Nizam.
The film is directed by Mike Newell, who also directed the fourth Harry Potter film, The Goblet Of Fire.

The first movie stills of Gemma as Tamina – once again courtesy of Empire Online. :)

Sands Of Time is slippery when wet

It isn’t just us mere mortals getting soggy this rainy Monday morning, as these new shots from Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time prove.

Getting a little bit carried away trying to cool down in the arid Middle Eastern sun, our Prince Dastan, played by the brooding Jake Gyllenhaal, along with the sultry Princess Tamina (Gemma Arterton) are shown here drenched from head to foot, and then escaping on horseback still soaking wet.

Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time, also stars Sir Ben Kingsley doing his best Evil Sultan as the coniving Nizam, as well as Toby ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’ Kebbel and Alfred ‘Doc Ock’ Molina. The film is due on our decidedly unsunny shores on May 28 2010.

The new generation of British actresses know each other, and many have appeared in the same films and TV dramas. James Mottram reports on a remarkable flowering of fresh talent

While once upon a time it was McGregor and Law who made it to Hollywood, now we have the likes of Gemma Arterton. Already known for her brief-but-memorable role as a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace, the 23-year-old from Gravesend will next be seen in two of the biggest films of 2010, the video-game adaptation Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and a remake of the cult favourite Clash of the Titans. Entertainment Weekly might have been disappointing Gemma-wise, but UK’s Empire makes up for that. ;) They revealed two new posters for the movie today, one of them being of our stunning Gemma. And they promise more in their September issue. :)

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is one of next year’s big summer movies, so a few new posters showing the lovely Jake Gyllenhaal and the gorgeous Gemma Arterton are just the thing to bring a touch of sunshine to this otherwise cloudy day.

Based on the massively popular series of videogames, the story sees Gyllenhaal as a ‘rogue prince’ Dastan and Gemma Arterton as ‘mysterious princess’ Tamina, who reluctantly team up to safeguard an ancient dagger that could release the Sands of Time, allowing its possessor to reverse time and rule the world.

Also starring Sir Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina, directed by Mike Newell, and out on May 28, 2010, you’ll need to set expectations to “epic” for this one.

Stephen Frears, the award-winning director, has got Gemma Arterton in his sights to play the title character of his next film Tamara Drewe, about a woman who raises the temperature when she arrives at a writers’ retreat in a quiet country village.

The story is based on a Posy Simmonds newspaper comic strip that was published as a graphic novel two years ago.

Frears, who directed The Queen (which won an Oscar for Helen Mirren), has told his producers he wants Gemma to play Tamara, a newspaper columnist who just happens to be a knock-out beauty. Read the rest of this entry »
