The Clash of the Titans sequel, which has been referred to as Wrath of the Titans but a press release today calls Clash of the Titans 2, started shooting this week under the direction of Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles). Sam Worthington returns to star as Perseus, but it looks like Gemma Arterton‘s commitment to Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters means she definitely won’t be in the film, as her name is MIA from the release. We’ve now got a pretty full cast line-up, and a full plot for the film, after the break.

Some of the core cast is returning: Sam Worthington is Perseus; Liam Neeson is Zeus; Danny Huston is Poseidon; and Ralph Fiennes is Hades. Then Rosamund Pike plays maiden turned warrior Andromeda; Edgar Ramirez is Ares; Toby Kebbell is Argenor; and Bill Nighy is Hephaestus. The press release confirms quite a few things that have been talked about over the past couple months, such as Liam Neeson and Danny Huston returning, and the casting of Bill Nighy. According to Box Office Mojo Warner Bros. has pushed the release date of Clash of the Titans 2 back a week from March 23, 2012 to March 30, 2012. The move is likely to give the movie breathing room as in it’s old date it was up against Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games, which is edging closer to filming.

The sequel, currently titled Wrath of the Titans, sees the return of Sam Worthington as Perseus and Gemma Arterton as Io. Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes will also return as Zeus and Hades, and new addition Rosamund Pike will play Andromeda. Read the rest of this entry »

Clash of the Titans 2‘ will be like “‘Gladiator‘ with lots of creatures”.

According to filmmaker Jonathan Liebesman, the movie – which sees Greek warriors fighting against Gods and mythical creatures – will be more “grounded” than last year’s fantasy epic starring Liam Neeson and Gemma Arterton.

He said: “It’s going to be a much more natural, gritty, grounded fantasy movie. Just think ‘Gladiator‘ with lots of creatures, I’m excited. It’s a good opportunity to do something awesome with some great actors in a great genre.”

Sam Worthington recently admitted he is “surprised” a sequel to the film was commissioned.

The Australian actor – who played the role of Perseus in the much maligned 2010 remake – is glad the original film got criticised as it means a follow-up doesn’t have to stick to the same storyline.

He said recently: “The thing is the first film we got criticised a lot for, but now the good thing about the sequel is that we are not beholden to an original story and we can learn from the mistakes of the first and hopefully improve on it.

“I mean there is a surprise that we are making a sequel because of the critical drubbing.”

Clash of the Titans 2‘ is scheduled for release in March 2012.

Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures is near a deal with Barney’s Version star Rosamund Pike to play the role of Andromeda in the Clash of the Titans sequel. Pike has been on the radar since the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day and has done a succession of indie films. Pike had been mentioned in speculative stories about who might get the lead in Zack Snyder-directed Superman films opposite Henry Cavill. Scratch her off the list, she’ll be busy in this Warner Bros film instead, which stars Sam Worthington and will be directed by Battle: Los Angeles helmer Jonathan Liebesman. Andromeda (played by Alexa Davalos in the original, who was unavailable for the sequel) is a major role and had the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow mentioned as possibles. She’s repped by UTA, Magnolia and United Agents.

Hottest Actress – Gemma Arterton

We Say: With Hollywood blockbusters (Clash Of the Titans, Prince Of Persia) a Brit com (Tamara Drewe) and the low-budget thrills of Alice Creed, no-one displayed more range in 2010. And there’s more to come…

You Say: “She’s clearly in demand for big Hollywood movies but still does stuff like The Disappearance of Alice Creed, which she was great in. I think she’s the most interesting actress out there right now.” Simon Clements, Newquay Read the rest of this entry »

Gemma Arterton was chosen the Hottest Actress of the year by Total Film magazine and talked exclusively about her upcoming projects!

“Thank you so much for this award. I’m very flattered and thrilled — I saw the shortlist, so I know I was in good company. This year’s been intense, but next year’s going to be… intenser! [Laughs] I’m attached to about nine projects but I’m not sure which one I am allowed to talk about… but I’m aiming for even more diversity. Capa [biopic about combat photographer Robert Capa] is confirmed, so I should be working with Andrew Garfield! [Garfield will play Capa, Arterton his partner, Gerda Taro, the first female photojournalist to cover a war front line] and there’s Clash of the Titans 2… And hopefully I’ll be working with Michael Winterbottom on London Fields and then there’s… no, I’d better stop. You’ll get me into trouble! Thanks for the award!”

Big thanks to Lorna! :D

When Clash of the Titans was released this past April, it opened to mediocre reviews before moving on to earn $491 million worldwide. Nobody understands the negativity more than the movie’s lead star, Sam Worthington, who recently told Moviefone that he didn’t exactly disagree with the criticism.

I think the first one, we kind of let down some people. And yeah, I totally agree. The only point of doing a sequel is either the audience demands it or you believe you can better the first one. What we’re setting out to do with this one — the writers and the director and myself — is improve. I think I can act f***ing better, to be honest … Just take all the notes from people that I have been reading about on the ‘net and give them a movie they f***ing want. This one I want to kind of try to satisfy a lot more people.

Sam Worthington hopes the ‘Clash of the Titans’ sequel will “rectify the mistakes” the first film made.

The Australian actor – who played Perseus in the critically-slammed but commercially successful movie alongside Liam Neeson and Gemma Arterton – plans to have a different take on the first movie in the upcoming sequel by improving his performance and getting a new haircut.

He told Total Film: “It got roasted but it made half a billion dollars. And when we do the second one we can rectify the mistakes of the first. Read the rest of this entry »

Javier Bardem and James Franco Rumored To Lead ‘Clash’ Sequel ‘Wrath of the Titans’

Is Warner Brothers trying to pull a Fox on us? The latter studio has hired Darren Aronofsky to direct a sequel to the poorly reviewed X-Men Origins: Wolverine and now we have our first casting rumors on a Clash of the Titans sequel. The recent blockbuster fared similar to Gavin Hood’s Wolverine; big hype followed by bigger disappointment.

Production Weekly is reporting that the studio is looking at the Oscar award-winning Javier Bardem and soon-to-be Oscar award-winning James Franco to lead the sequel, now titled Wrath of the Titans. Like any unsubstantiated rumor, take it will a grain of salt. Bardem is looking at the character of Ares, the god of war, while Franco would play Agenor, son of Poseidon. Based on Posy Simmonds’ beloved graphic novel of the same name, Tamara Drewe is a witty and modern take on the romantic English pastoral. When Tamara Drewe (Gemma Arterton) returns to the quaint village she grew up in, after having had plastic surgery to quite drastically change her appearance, the aspiring writers seeking inspiration at a neighboring retreat quickly become curious, especially when a rock star (Dominic Cooper) begins hanging around. The original owners of the farm that Tamara is taking residence in is the family of Andy Cobb (Luke Evans), who works as a gardener and handyman for his old flame, even though his family had to sell the property years earlier to the wealthy Drewes as a country home. Using her new-found sex appeal to get what she wants from everyone, Tamara ignites the various infatuations, jealousies and love affairs going on among the inhabitants of the farmsteads, all of which are sure to blow up in their faces.

In this exclusive interview with Collider, done during the film’s recent press day, actress Gemma Arterton talked about being intrigued by a character that is so complex and complicated, her desire to play the role to figure out someone that she didn’t initially identify with, and the challenge of making such an ambiguous character watchable throughout the film. She also discussed her excitement to return to the role of Io for Clash of the Titans 2 and how she’s looking forward to the experience of filming in 3D. Check out what she had to say after the jump.

If I were Tamara Drewe’s title character, a newspaper columnist who shakes up the English village of her youth when she returns from London with a tiny new nose and a big new attitude, I would write that Gemma Arterton led me into her hotel bedroom with the obvious goal of seducing me. But I’m not, so I’ll admit that Arterton—who stars as Tamara in Stephen Frears’s new film, which had its Cinema Society premiere last night—was only trying to find a quiet place to conduct our interview.

Jenni Miller: True or false: writers are totally crazy.

Gemma Arterton: True! But I think that anyone that’s creative is a bit nuts…. I’m not a writer but I do know a lot of writers, and I also know a lot of songwriters, and one particular person I know, she dramatizes her own life so that she can write a song or something about it. And I thought, That is so what Tamara does. Read the rest of this entry »

(…) I got to sit down with the producer Basil Iwanyk to talk about Clash of the Titans 2.

(…) He also tells me that he’s incredibly happy with the script for Clash of the Titans 2 and that it takes place 5 or 6 years after the first film and it’ll be more realistic – including the depiction of the monsters. He also reveals Gemma Arterton will be back. Read the rest of this entry »

Gemma Arterton doesn’t want to get “trapped” in her career.

The actress shot to fame playing Strawberry Fields in 2008 Bond movie Quantum of Solace. Since then Gemma has starred in a range of movies from office blockbusters such as Clash of the Titans and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, to smaller films like The Disappearance of Alice Creed.

She can next be seen in dark British romantic comedy Tamara Drewe, in which she plays the title role. Gemma loves to shock audiences by choosing different roles and hopes she never becomes typecast. Read the rest of this entry »
