“Making Clash Of The Titans was also fun but it was a lot warmer.

“It was mostly filmed in Tenerife, where we did all the battles with the giant scorpions. It was great.

“We were either working or drinking beers in the evening, not bad. We were basically spending 24 hours together and became a tight group – Sam, Nicholas Hoult, Liam Cunningham, all of us.

“We were competing all the time, doing sports and all kinds of stuff.

“Gemma Arterton was the only girl but she became just one of the boys. She was good fun and took part in everything. Read the rest of this entry »

In just the past two years, Gemma Arterton’s been drowned in crude oil (in Quantum of Solace), stabbed to death (Clash of the Titans), and dropped off a cliff (Prince of Persia) — is it any wonder she’s tired of blockbusters? “I don’t want to sound too dismissive of big movies because they are fun and you know, they’re business moves and you can’t just be artistic all the time,” she tells us. “But I am more interested in doing only smaller films right now.” Up next for Arterton: serious films with girls’ names in the titles! The Disappearance of Alice Creed, an indie thriller in which she plays the titular kidnapping victim, is out this week. In the fall, she’ll star in Stephen Frears’s Tamara Drewe. Vulture spoke with her during a recent visit to New York about Creed, the movie she hopes to make next (Luca Guadagnino’s Corsica 72), and why she’s not disappointed she wasn’t cast in Transformers 3.

When Megan Fox was fired from her role in Transformers 3 in May, it only took the Internet a few minutes to cast you as her replacement. Was that ever a possibility?
I didn’t even hear anything until I went to meet with another director for something else. He asked, “So, you’re doing Transformers?” I was like, “I’m sorry, what?” Read the rest of this entry »

We’ve seen Gemma Arterton in two big budget productions this year alone, Clash of the Titans and Prince of Persia, and though neither represent what she’s capable of as an actress, she’ll be back for more. During a chat about her upcoming film, The Disappearance of Alice Creed, Arterton revealed that her role in Clash 2 is likely to be small, and even admitted which of the two blockbusters she liked better.

She confirmed that she’ll appear in the Clash sequel, but didn’t really sound all that enthusiastic about either the movie itself or her contractually obligated role in it:

“I don’t really know what the story is going to be. I think they’re writing it at the moment and they’re going to get back to us, but I don’t think I’m in it much the next movie, which is kind of good.” She added, “It’s going because it was a real success in the box office so they’re going to make another one.”

Sam Worthington spoke with press on July 9 at the offices of Radical Studios, an LA-based company that has teamed with Worthington’s Full Clip Productions for a number of series, about his upcoming film work, including the sequel to Clash of the Titans that he says will begin shooting early next year.

“[It} will be 3D this time,” said Worthington, making it clear that he himself wasn’t happy with the post-conversion process of the first film, “Shot in 3D. Do put that in and make them f–king aware… Read the rest of this entry »

‘I think she needs to be less mythical and more real and go for the fighting,’ actress says about her character Io’s role in next installment.

“Clash of the Titans” fought its way through withering critical reviews and a ho-hum domestic box office this spring to become a worldwide hit with almost $500 million in ticket sales. For the upcoming sequel, Warner Bros. is changing up key pieces of the franchise — from bringing in a new director to shooting the movie in 3-D rather than converting in it post-production — in a quest to make the next “Clash” even more successful.

Other aspects of the swords-and-sandals epic will remain the same, including the return of Sam Worthington and, as MTV News has now learned, Gemma Arterton. Read the rest of this entry »

It didn’t take twenty-four year old British actress Gemma Arterton very long to establish her self as a successful movie star and Hollywood’s new “It” girl. She began her career as a Bond girl playing MI6 agent Strawberry Fields opposite Daniel Craig’s James Bond in Quantum of Solace, then returned to the screen earlier this year in Clash of the Titans, the popular remake of the classic ’80s mythology film starring Sam Worthington. Now Arterton is back once again with another huge adventure film as she takes on the role of Princess Tamina opposite Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal in Jerry Bruckheimer’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which is based on the beloved video game and opens in theaters of May 28th.

In the film, Arterton’s Tamina must join forces with Gyllenhaal’s Dastan in order to protect “The Dagger Of Time,” a magical weapon that has the power to reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world, before it falls into the hands of the evil Nizam played by Oscar winner Ben Kingsley. We recently had a chance to speak with Gemma Arterton about the new film, her character’s quest, how she won the role, what it’s like working on a Jerry Bruckheimer set and the chances of her returning for a possible sequel. Here is what the talented young actress had to say: Read the rest of this entry »

With Walt Disney’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time getting released this weekend, a few days ago I got to do a phone interview with the lovely Gemma Arterton. As most of you have seen the trailers and know what the film is about, I’m going to keep this intro brief. But if you’re not familiar, here’s a bunch of clips from the movie with the full synopsis.

During the interview we talked about the challenges of filming in Morocco and what it was like making the movie, and we also talked about her other projects like Tamara Drewe and The Disappearance of Alice Creed. Also, even though Warner Bros. is moving forward with Clash of the Titans 2, she revealed that she’s not yet signed for a sequel so it’s up to her whether or not to come back. Finally, with how much Clash of the Titans changed during filming, I asked what was her reaction to the final product. Hit the jump to read or listen to the interview.
