Pirate Radio not only hones in on this music and the forbidden nature it once had on millions of impressionable teens in the 60s but the formidable craziness it ensued on people emerging the first semblance of pop culture into our global society. Set in 1966, it tells the story of a fictitious pirate radio station broadcasting to the United Kingdom from a ship moored in the North Sea known as Radio Rock. station, which employs some of the fiercest on-air talent around, under the guidance of Captain Quentin (Bill Nighy).

As you can see from the Empire scans Gemma has been confirmed for Clash of the Titans!
“I’m playing a demi-goddess named Io. It’s going to be a huge ensemble piece with loads of characters. The original was one of my favourites when I was a kid. The script is quite different from the previous film, though.”

Sam Worthington (who will play Perseus, the lead character) reels off the movie’s locations: “We’re going to Iceland, the Canary Islands, Wales, Ethiopia… It’s going to have a reality to it. Obviously you’ve still got the flying horse, but we’ll make the effects seamless against that real backdrop — that’s what Louis (Leterrier — the director) is aiming for. We aren’t going to be playing it as a painting. 300 did that, and did it very well.”
Special thanks to Lorna for providing the scans!

Bond girl Gemma said: “Nick told me not to use tongues when we kissed – we agreed that early on. Because we were filming on a boat, there was a risk of sea sickness. Imagine having to kiss after being sick? Thankfully I’m a tough girl.”

Stars including Rhys Ifans, Gemma Arterton, Kenneth Branagh and Bill Nighy have turned out for the world premiere of The Boat That Rocked.
A red carpet wound through the middle of London’s Leicester Square as women dressed in skimpy 60s’ outfits danced on a plinth with vinyl record discs in the background.
The movie, from the director of Love Actually, Richard Curtis, is about young people, the 1960s and pop music.
It centres around a band of DJs who captivate Britain by playing music that defines a generation as pirate radio plays rock and pop from the high seas 24 hours a day.
Those behind the film said that more than half the population of Britain listened to the pirates every single day.
Arterton described the film as “fun, fun, fun all the time. It was brilliant”. Read the rest of this entry »
