The Disappearance of Alice Creed has been and gone in cinemas in the UK but it’s yet to be released in the US. It’s directed by J Blakeson and as well as Arterton, stars Martin Compston and Eddie Marsan.

It’s not got a release date on DVD yet in the UK but you can sign up for notifications here. The movie is to be released in the US 6th August and ComingSoon.net have got the first five minutes of the movie which I’ve embedded below.

Why Gemma Was Nervous to Meet Jake

Gemma Arterton was already a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal’s work when she found out she was cast in the new film Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (in theaters May 28). So, it’s not surprising that she’d be nervous to act alongside him. But once she got over her initial nerves, the British actress tells iVillage that she was happily surprised by her sexy leading man.

“I’m quite a mischievious person and I like to cause a lot of trouble on set,” she says. “I was really hoping that Jake was the type of actor who would play along. And he was, thank goodness!”

The 24-year-old Arterton, who also appeared in this year’s Clash of the Titans, may not be high on your radar yet, but there’s plenty of buzz predicting she’s set to be the Next Big Thing. So, what keeps her grounded? “My family and friends are very normal,” she says. “They just just support me and tell me when I’m being silly.”

‘I always wanted to be in a rock band’

Actress tells NME she’ll have to content herself with playing a rock star

Gemma Arterton has told NME that music was her biggest passion rather than acting, and her goal growing up was to front a band. The British actress – currently starring in Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time alongside Jake Gyllenhaal – said she was in “lots of dodgy bands” growing up, but never made it as a musician.

“Music is my biggest passion aside from anything else,” she said. “I was in lots of dodgy bands growing up and I always fancied myself in a band. But, you know, I was rubbish at writing music. So maybe one day I’ll play a rock star, or punk rocker.”

She also spoke about the forthcoming Kurt Cobain biopic, saying she had read the script “which was amazing, and someone unknown needs to play Kurt Cobain”.

She added: “Maybe they should find someone new, because when you’re playing an iconic character, if you get someone really famous to play them, sometimes you’re watching someone really famous play someone else, and it’s nice when it’s a completely new person”.

The former Bond girl has four releases this year alone – alongside Prince Of Persia she was in swords and sandals action film Clash Of The Titans with Sam Worthington, low-budget British drama The Disappearance Of Alice Creed with Eddie Marsan and, by the end of the year, she will be seen in comic-strip adaptation Tamara Drewe, which screened to critical praise at the Cannes Film Festival this week.

Gemma Arterton and Jake Gyllenhaal talk about the film they both star in ‘ Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’.

Set in Persia, the fantasy tale centres around a prince called Dastan played by Gyllenhaal, who is blamed for the death of a King, that took him under his wing, and now he must fight to clear his name.

On his quest he meets a mysterious Alamut princess called Tamina played by Arterton and together they must stop an evil ruler from stealing an ancient glass dagger that could unleash a dangerous sandstorm.

Gemma Arterton and Jake Gyllenhaal told reporters why they enjoyed doing the film.

Bond Girl Gemma In Low-Budget Brit Thriller

She may be hot property in Hollywood at the moment, but former Bond girl Gemma Arterton insists she’s still just a normal Kent girl at heart.

The actress stars in two of this year’s biggest studio blockbusters – Clash Of The Titans and Prince Of Persia.

But her latest film, The Disappearance Of Alice Creed, is a much grittier, low-budget flick made back home in the UK.

“If I thought about it in that way it would freak me out,” Gemma told Sky News when asked about the pressure of being called “this year’s one to watch”.

“I just try to get on with my work and live my life as normally as I can and I do live a very normal life outside of work.

“I’m very lucky this is coming out between the two because it shows there’s another side.”

Alice Creed is a dark and tense suspense film that centres around the kidnap of a rich socialite.

It features only three actors, and is mostly shot in a single flat.

But with its series of clever twists, it’s already received high praise from the critics.

“I felt more at home on this kind of film,” Arterton explains.

“This is the sort of thing I always imagined I’d do, it was kind of like doing a play.

“You’re not handed everything on a plate so you have to work things out and make your own decisions. You have to do a bit of thinking.”

The actress had to endure some pretty harrowing scenes in the film, where her character is snatched, stripped naked, and tied to a bed.

But Gemma knew these shocking moments were essential in the lead-up to the twists that followed, even if filming them was sometimes difficult.

“When I signed up I knew that was going to happen and I said ‘Yes’ to it,” said Arterton.

“It’s hard for everybody, especially J (Blakeson, the writer and director).

“He’d say to me every night ‘I feel horrible because you’re a really nice girl but I keep doing all these horrible things to you!’.

“But I want to do things as an actress that scare and challenge me, and this did, so I’m proud of it.”

Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Gemma Arterton was one of the guests on this week’s Friday Night with Jonathan Ross show. The actress spoke about her upcoming roles, including the big budget Clash of the Titans remake. She also spoke about how she was born with two extra fingers, saying she thinks her children will be too. She commented: “I’m very proud of it because it makes me unique. Hopefully my children will have them.”
