    Plot Outline:
Quantum of Solace continues the high octane adventures of James Bond in Casino Royale. Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M interrogate Mr White who reveals the organisation which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an Mi6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille, a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene, a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organisation.

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world's most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano. Using his associates in the organisation, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land.

In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene's sinister plan and stop his organisation.

    Gemma's Role:
Gemma Arterton has been tapped to be one of the next generation of "Bond girls". According to sources, while her role is not as large as the main love interest Camille (played by Olga Kurylenko) she still has a quite a big part. She will play MI6 Agent Fields. She works for the British Consulate and she will work with Bond (Daniel Craig). Basically, she is tasked with trying to "keep Bond under control". They will meet in Bolivia, and there will be "a lot of oil" involved. Fields is "very typically Fleming": she is very independent and a strong woman. She is a "bit snooty", but "very, very cute". Gemma described her role as "not so frolicksome" and her character "fresh and young, not sultry and a femme fatale". Arterton told IGN that Fields does become sexually involved with Bond - there's a kiss, at least - and that something happens to her in a "scene which is an homage to something iconic, but I cannot tell you what that is. But it will be remembered". The British actress has also confirmed to a U.S. reporter that she and Daniel Craig filmed scenes in a honeymoon suite, even though it seems very unlikely that their characters will get married. In the previously mentioned IGN interview she talked about Diana Rigg (who played Tracy Di Vicenzo, the only woman that Bond has ever married) more than once - noting her as one of her favorite Bond girls and saying "my hair is reminiscent of Diana Rigg's hair". So the most obvious conclusion is that perhaps the "homage scene" is a climactic one for her and is something similar to the climactic scene in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969). However, others see in the oil reference something similar to what happened to Jill Masterson (played by Shirley Eaton) in Goldfinger (1964). Only Fields would be found covered with oil, instead of gold. Based on what we know of the honeymoon suite, it could also be an homage to the From Russia with Love (1963) bedroom scene with Tatiana Romanova (played by Daniela Bianchi). The only thing we know for sure is that Gemma's character "sort of comes to a sticky end".
