  • Hugh Bonneville
  • Tom Riley
  • Character: Elizabeth Bennet
    Production Status: On DVD
Release Date: September 3, 2008 (UK)
    Director: Dan Zeff
    Writers: Guy Andrews, Jane Austen
    Genre: Drama / Romance
    MPAA Rating: n/a

    Plot Outline:
Amanda Price (Jemima Rooper) is a devoted Jane Austen fan; often immersing herself into a world of dashing gents, elegant corsets and picturesque manor houses. Unsatisfied with her life and relationship in modern day London, Amanda's ordinary existence is changed forever when she discovers Elizabeth Bennet (Gemma Arterton) alive in her bathroom and ends up replacing her in the very 'real' fictional world of Austen's Pride and Prejudice. An all star cast bring Austen's classic characters to life in a cleverly modern context; with Hugh Bonneville as Mr Bennet and Alex Kingston as the irrepressible Mrs Bennet.

    Gemma's Role:
Gemma Arterton is Elizabeth Bennet. The Bond girl is most definitely her father's favourite out of the five daughters in this lavish TV production and her modern take on life could well see her thrive as the series progresses. Gemma feels her character is also very curious. Despite joining the set later than the other actors, she soon hit her stride as Lizzie finds herself thrust into a world completely alien to her.

Elizabeth Bennet is a fictional character and the protagonist of Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice. The novel is centered on her attempts to find love and happiness within the society she lives in, particularly concerning her relationship with the seemingly proud and cold Mr. Darcy. She is generally considered one of Austen's most popular and endearing heroines, and one of the most popular female characters in British literature. In the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice she was played by fellow British actress Keira Knightley. (learn more)
