She may work in one of the world’s most body conscious industries, but Gemma Arterton is fast becoming a poster girl for curvier women.
A size 10, actress Gemma has made a point of stating that she has no intention of shedding her womanly curves.
And as she arrived on the red carpet for the premiere of her new film last night it was clear to see that she has stuck to her word.
Her shapely hourglass figure was flattered by her black bodycon dress with contrasting gold top.
But her curves were a far cry from the toned figure she showed in the Bond film Quantum Of Solace, in which she appeared naked with Daniel Craig.
Following the premiere Gemma pulled on a black leather mac and headed to the Ivy to celebrate.
The Bond girl was criticised for having a double chin earlier this year, but rather than embarking on a diet she spoke out against the pressure for famous women to conform to a stick-thin stereotype.
Gemma insisted she was happy with her image and said she would not be slimming for future roles.
She added: ‘I refuse to conform to this muscly, sinewy look that so many actresses seem to think is attractive. I hate it and I don’t think it’s very feminine.
‘I dress like a woman and wear a lot of couture because it’s made for real women with curves. I’m a size ten, which I don’t think is big.’
And it seems her decision is proving to be the right one.
Gemma’s career has been going from strength to strength and it was recently revealed that she is to take on the role of Cathy in a new movie version of Emily Bronte’s classic novel Wuthering Heights.
Last night she was at the premiere of her new film The Disappearance of Alice Creed, a tense, claustrophic drama which showcases her talent. She also stars in the upcoming St Trinian’s 2.
