Meet InStyle’s cover girl Gemma Arterton – Britain’s hottest export
Clash of the Titans star Gemma Arterton opens up to InStyle about body image, hitting the red carpet and her wedding next year

British, beautiful and brilliantly talented, we’re very excited about May’s cover star Gemma Arterton. She has two blockbusters Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time and Clash of the Titans out this year (her co-stars include Jake Gyllenhaal and Avatar’s Sam Worthington) and her career is about to go stratospheric.

All this and the Rada-trained actress is very modest too. Dressed casually in a Helmut Lang top and J Brand jeans, she told InStyle: ‘If I’m offered a role, I always think, I’m not hot enough to play this part’.

We beg to differ! As our photographer Julian Broad’s beautiful shoot shows… Gemma looks stunning in nude feminine draping by Vionnet, Valentino and Alberta Ferretti.

And the St Trinian’s star’s no slouch in her work either, winning plaudits from directors such as Mike Newell to Bond himself, Daniel Craig, who told us: ‘She’s doing brilliantly. She won’t stop working’.

Though Gemma is excited by the glamorous side of the business, she admits she finds the red-carpet experience ‘petrifying’. ‘There’s a lot of pressure on actresses,’ she says. ‘It’s always been there – the idea of being the perfect Hollywood starlet. But I don’t really feel I’m like that.’

Refreshingly, the 24-year-old actress from Kent loves her curves and refuses to conform to being a size zero. Citing Monica Bellucci as a role model, she sticks to her belief: ‘I’ll be myself and put out the message of what I think is attractive’.

Hurrah, we all say! We wouldn’t mind looking as good as this….

On the subject of love, Gemma lights up. Speaking of her whirlwind romance with her mystery man Stefano (whom she is due to wed next year), she tells us she knew she was going to marry him the night she met him. ‘I really just want to spend the rest of my life with him. He’s an amazing man.’
