Who will star in U.S. version of Stieg Larsson thriller?

If you’ve seen the Swedish thriller “The Girl Who Played with Fire,” then you know why Stieg Larsson’s best-selling trilogy is a global phenomenon. His first book, “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” started the stampede, and introduced the pierced, tattooed, hacker heroine Lisbeth Salander.

The Swedish film version of “Tattoo” (starring Noomi Rapace) is now on DVD, released to coincide with “Fire” on the big screen and the U.S. hardcover publication of the concluding novel, “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.”

Speculation is rampant on who will play Salander in the imminent Hollywood version directed by David Fincher (“The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Panic Room”).

Here are our odds for the actresses rumored in the running to star opposite Daniel Craig.

Kristen Stewart: 100 to 1. The “Twilight” star would top any poll of fan favorites but she recently told David Letterman she’s taken herself out of contention.

Carey Mulligan: 5 to 1. The brilliant Oscar nominee (“An Education”) who stars in “Wall Street 2” this September is considered the leader of the pack.

Natalie Portman: 50 to 1. Another Oscar-nominated actress, Portman may be too well known to successfully submerge herself and transform into Lisbeth.

Megan Fox: 100 to 1. The sultry “Transformers” star would be perfect – she has tattoos, seems made for motorcycles and black leather. If only people thought she could really act.

Gemma Arterton: 20 to 1. Classically trained “Prince of Persia” star has got the chops but may be just too beautifully feminine to be a believable bisexual punker.

Emily Blunt: 20 to 1. A Golden Globe nominee (“Young Victoria”), Blunt has no negatives.

Scarlett Johansson: 40 to 1. The recent Tony award winner is probably too well known to be a viable candidate.

Yo-Landi Vi$$er: 100 to 1. Who? This lead singer of South African rap group Die Antwoord has, according to one report, enchanted Fincher and could be the right wild card.
