‘Tamara Drewe‘, the new film starring GEMMA ARTERTON, is set to premiere in London’s Leicester Square on Monday 6th September 2010. The movie, directed by STEPHEN FREARS, is based on POSY SIMMONDS’ acclaimed graphic novel about a young newspaper journalist who is torn between two lovers after returning home to the countryside. Arterton plays the eponymous ‘Tamara’, and the cast also features DOMINIC COOPER, TAMSIN GREIG, and ROGER ALLAM.
In a recent interview with Time Out London, Arterton explained how she had initial reservations about playing the part of Tamara, she said, “At the start, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do the film. I really liked the script and I knew that I could do it but I had a little bit of apprehension. I’m not sure why. Then they sent me the comic, and that was the deal-maker. I’ve always loved Thomas Hardy (the book is inspired by Far From The Madding Crowd) and I just fell in love with the comic”.
When asked why he decided to adapt the novel for screen, Frears told The Telegraph “somebody sent me a script of it and I said, ‘Oh yes, of course!’ It was sexy and it was funny. I just thought, this is heaven”. ‘Tamara Drewe‘ it is due for release on Friday 10th September 2010.
