The 24-year-old was named GQ’s woman of the year in midweek, but not even that accolade, nor the £1,500-plus goodie bag she reportedly received at the event, could eclipse her ‘brilliant’ Monday thanks to her Charlton heroes.
Gravesend-born Gemma is a massive Addicks fan – and squealed with delight when she was presented with a new home women’s shirt by Lorraine Kelly live on ITV.
The actress, who is currently promoting new film Tamara Drewe, was as pleased as punch to receive the shirt – donated by the club – on Monday morning.
And despite receiving a bag containing a cashmere blanket, limited edition fountain pen, lunch at Heston Blumenthal’s restaurant and some Agent Provocateur lingerie during Tuesday’s plush bash at London’s Royal Opera House, it was the latest Addicks offering which was clearly the highlight of her week.
“My dad instilled it [supporting Charlton] in me,” said Gemma, when quizzed about her footballing allegiance by Dundee United fan Kelly during the latter’s weekday morning show.
“He used to take me to Charlton games when I was a kid. They were the cheapest tickets, I suppose!
“It’s brilliant,” she added, hugging the shirt warmly. “My dad will be so pleased. He’s going to love you forever for that.”
Arterton, who attended Gravesend Grammar School for Girls and studied performing arts in Dartford, sprang to emergence as Bond girl Strawberry Fields in Quantum of Solace in 2008. She has also starred in Hollywood blockbusters Clash of the Titans and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Tamara Drewe, during which the actor clearly demonstrates her SE7 allegiance by sporting a red top, opens in cinemas across the UK on Friday.
And Arterton will no doubt hope her Addicks heroes have a licence to thrill against Notts County at The Valley a day later.
