Gemma Arterton has joked she was so dedicated to her debut acting role that she ate hay to ensure she was a “damn good ox”.
The 27-year-old British actress has starred in big budget hits such as the Bond movie Quantum of Solace in 2008 and Clash of the Titans.
She says her acting prowess surfaced when she was very young, and named her first role in a school play as a defining moment in her career.
“I played an ox in The Nativity, and I made sure that ox was damn good. I was about five or six and I was really put out, so I totally upstaged everyone else. Even baby Jesus,” Gemma laughed to Empire magazine. “I was like, ‘f**k him- look at this ox!’ People left saying, ‘That ox had a very good voice. I went well Method. I was hanging out in stables, eating hay. You know, the usual.”
The actress joked that if she could wake up as anybody else she’d choose to be action hero Bruce Willis. Gemma says if her dream were to come true she’d spend the day mostly wearing next to nothing as she carried out Bruce’s demanding promotional commitments.
“I’d walk around the streets naked,” she giggled. “And appear on The One Show [UK TV series] naked. A lot.”
