“Oh my gosh! That was shot on my birthday!” laughs Arterton. “It was so cold. I think it might be the most physically challenging thing I’ve ever shot. It was on 2 February, absolutely freezing. We were in the West of Ireland in this beautiful little seaside town called Castletownbere. It’s one of the highest waterfalls in Ireland apparently, but it’s on private land. We dyed it red with organic dye. I could only be in there for seven seconds because then I would get brain freeze. It was so invigorating I had this sort of high afterwards. Everyone was so cold anyway and then I was there in this slip of a dress…”
Byzantium opens on 31 May in the UK.
