Gemma Arterton has revealed that she isn’t thrilled with the prospect of singing live in the Made In Dagenham musical.

The Voices star will reprise her film role of Rita O’Grady in the stage version, which will make its West End and world premiere at London’s Adelphi Theatre later this year.

“I haven’t started rehearsals yet. I start in August. When you develop a musical, it takes years so I’ve been involved in it for a long time,” she said.

Gemma – who will star opposite Adrian Der Gregorian as her screen husband Eddie – said the musical will be a fitting companion to the Nigel Cole’s 2010 film, which was based on the real events of the Ford sewing machinists strike of 1968.

It has been adapted for the stage by Richard Bean, with music by David Arnold.

“I think it is really brilliant and very special. The music’s fantastic, the script is brilliant,” she continued.

“Richard Bean, the guy who wrote it, wrote One Man, Two Guv’nors so it is so funny and moving. So I’m really excited about it, if not completely nervous about having to sing in front of millions of people.”
