MIRROR.CO.UK – Actress Gemma Arterton and singers Paloma Faith and Annie Lennox urged women to vote as they joined two of the Pankhurst Suffragette family and the Mirror’s #NoVoteNoVoice bus on the Walk In Her Shoes march.

Annie Lennox told thousands of women at London’s Tower Bridge: “You’re potential change-makers. You have so many more rights than so many women.”

She was joined by Radio One’s Gemma Cairney, broadcaster Sandi Toksvig, politicians from across the political divide and human rights campaigners, who came together as “21st Century Suffragettes” to mark International Women’s Day.

Speaking to the Mirror, Paloma Faith said that women “fought long and hard for us to have a voice”.

She added: “Being here with the descendants of suffragettes and hearing what their families fought for – it sounds a bit cheap to say I didn’t vote because nobody really appeals to me.”

Radio 1’s Gemma Cairney said she understood why young people fel so disengaged from politics. “But I want to say: use your vote, use your voice. Don’t let others speak for you.”

The march was led by Helen Pankhurst – great-granddaughter of Emmeline and granddaughter of Sylvia – and her daughter Laura, 19.

Walk In her Shoes wants people to pledge 10,000 steps a day for a week to show support for women around the world who regularly trudge miles for water.

Gemma attended the Women in Cinema Lunch earlier today (in Paris I guess, according to her instagram she’s there now!) She opted for an all-black look as she teamed a jumper with a leather skirt, tights and heels. She added a pop of colour to the look thanks to her red lipstick and wore her fringed crop natural straight. (source)

She looks amazing with this new haircut, doesn’t she?? Few photos from the event have been added in the gallery, sadly in MQ version. Hopefully we’ll be able to get our hands on the HQs soon!

EDIT: HQs added thanks to Helen from Jonathan Rhys Meyers Source. And apparently the lunch was in London after all, at the Maison Assouline.
