Gemma Arterton appears to be starring in almost as many movies as Natalie Portman these days. And with roles in Quantum of Solace, Prince of Persia and The Disapperance of Alice Creed, her choices have earned her quite a few admirers from the genre crowd. Now Arterton’s signed on for a project that’s right up FEARnet‘s alley: Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Variety reports that Arterton will play one of the two title roles, alongside the previously announced Jeremy Renner, in this continuation of the classic Grimm’s fairy tale.

“The original take on the fairytale is set 15 years after the siblings killed the witch who kidnapped them. Hansel and Gretel have now evolved into bounty hunters who pursue witches.”

Dead Snow helmer Tommy Wirkola will direct from a script by D.W. Harper. Funnyman Will Ferrell and his partners Chris Henchy, Adam McKay and Kevin J. Messick will produce. The film starts shooting March 7th in Berlin.

After months of speculation and rumors, Gemma Arterton has officially signed on to play Gretel opposite Jeremy Renner’s Hansel in Paramount’s dark fantasy “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters”, based on the Grimm fairytale. Previously, the role had been rumored to have been snagged by “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” breakout star Noomi Rapace but as with these things, nothing’s official until deals have been signed. Eva Green and Diane Kruger were also in the running, but ultimately Arterton will be Gretel, according to THR.

Funnily enough, this film is not one of the dozens that Arterton has mentioned being attached to recently, which include the likes of “Capa” with Andrew Garfield, “London Fields”, “The Key to the Street” and more. One movie she is definitely attached to is the sequel to “Clash of the Titans”, “Wrath of the Titans”, in which she will reprise her role as Io. Renner is currently shooting “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” opposite Tom Cruise and will be on deck to play Hawkeye in “The Avengers” so scheduling around the two busy careers will be an issue for the studio.

Thank you, Santa, for Gemma Arterton and her complete inability to keep anything to herself. Becoming somewhat notorious in recent months for speaking out about everything, from which of her films she thinks aren’t very good (“Clash of the Titans”) to meeting with directors for projects that are far from confirmed (“Alien” prequel, among others), Arterton drops another bombshell in her latest interview. Announced quite casually to Total Film upon winning their Hottest Actress award, Arterton states that a biopic of early 20th century wartime photojournalist Robert Capa is in the works (“confirmed” is the word she uses), with Spider-Man Andrew Garfield in the title role and Arterton playing his partner, Gerda Taro, the first female photojournalist to cover war from the front lines.

Though Arterton simply calls it “Capa” to Total Film, the film in question is presumably “Waiting for Robert Capa”, reported last October to be directed by Michael Mann for Columbia Pictures, adapted from “Esperando a Robert Capa”, by Spanish writer Susana Fortes. That was the one and only news to come forth regarding the film until Arterton’s pronouncement this month. There is no word on whether Mann, who is at work on producing and directing HBO series “Luck”, is still attached. Read More

Warner Bros. Pictures has set a March 30, 2012 release date for Clash of the Titans 2 (AKA “Wrath of the Titans“). The other film scheduled for that date is DreamWorks Animation’s The Croods, voiced by Nicolas Cage, Ryan Reynolds, Catherine Keener and Emma Stone.

Jonathan Liebesman will direct the sequel to Clash of the Titans, which earned $493.2 million worldwide and carried a budget of about $125 million.

Sam Worthington, Gemma Arterton, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson are expected to return for the sequel that will be shot in 3D.

Liebesman directed Battle: Los Angeles, which opens in theaters on March 11.

The film Tamara Drewe will open Sydney Moonlight Cinema for a preview screening on Thursday December 9.

It is based on Posy Simmonds’ much loved novel of the same name.

Gemma Arterton starred in the title role that is is a witty, modern look at life in the English countryside, with pompous writers, rich weekenders, bourgeois bohemians and the odd cow and chicken thrown in for good measure.

When Tamara (Arterton) returns to her childhood home of Ewedown in Dorset to sell her late mother’s house, the ugly duckling the villagers remember has transformed into a devasting beauty.

This triggers a collision of infatuations, jealousies and love affairs among the inhabitants of the neighbouring farmsteads.

Ford Fiesta Moonlight Cinema is at Centennial Park, Belvedere Amphitheatre with entry via Woollahra gate off Oxford Street.

Gemma Arterton was spotted twice last week wearing a gorgeous Kerry Nixon Belle coat whilst out and about in London town – and boy did the British beauty look stunning.

We have to confess that we have a bit of a girl-crush on Ms. Arterton – can the girl ever do wrong? – so we don’t hold wearing the same coat twice in one week against her – frankly, we wouldn’t want to step out of it, either.

After all, the Kerry Nixon coat looked perfect against her pale complexion, and whether styled off-duty or elegantly for evening, the sumptuous velvet cuff and collar detailing and elegant A-line cut altogether make one subtly sleek piece of outerwear for the season.

No wonder she’s chosen it as her number one winter warmer.
