Song for Marion, the heart-warming story about the celebration of life, comes to DVD and Blu-ray on June 24th and is available for pre-order from Amazon.co.uk.

The film stars Vanessa Redgrave, Terrence Stamp, Gemma Arterton and Christopher Eccleston and follows shy, grumpy pensioner Arthur (Stamp) as he is reluctantly inspired by his beloved wife Marion (Redgrave) to join a local seniors choir.

Already at odds with his son James (Eccleston), Arthur’s life takes a turn for the worst and he finds himself with nothing left to sing about. It is left to charismatic choir director Elizabeth (Arterton) to try and persuade Arthur that he can learn to embrace life once again.

The choir’s songbook ranges from selections such as ‘You are the sunshine of my Life’ to unconventional classics including Motorhead’s ‘Ace of Spades’ and ‘Let’s talk about sex!’

As the choir final looms, Song for Marion follows Arthur as he embarks on a hilarious, life-affirming journey of musical self-discovery…

Neil Jordan’s latest stab at the vampire sub-genre, Byzantium, is poised to debut on June 28th from IFC Films. Expect the usual VOD/limited theatrical rollout.

Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan star as two mysterious women who seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.

The movie is already scheduled to hit selected UK theatres from 3rd May and Caleb Landry Jones (‘The Last Exorcism‘, ‘Antiviral‘), Jonny Lee Miller (‘Dexter‘, ‘Dark Shadows‘), Tom Hollander (‘Hanna‘) and Daniel Mays (‘Ashes to Ashes‘) all co-star.

For the second week in a row, three new movies entered cinemas, and only one of them is scoring healthy grosses, leaving the other two to languish right out of the gate.

Almost a year after its originally scheduled March 2012 release, Paramount’s $50 million Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters topped the chart on its first Friday with $6.0 million from 3,372 theaters. The poorly reviewed film (a phrase that applies to all this weekend’s new releases) stars Gemma Arteron and Jeremy Renner, but the Avengers star has demonstrated little drawing power as a leading man so far. Hansel and Gretel may take in about $16 million worth of [gingerbread] dough over the full weekend frame.

Former box office champ Mama dropped back into second place with $3.8 million, putting it on pace for a $13 million sophomore weekend, which would represent a not-so-scary-for-a-horror-movie 53 percent decline.

Two Oscar contenders took up the next two spots on the chart. Silver Linings Playbook added more gold to its total, dropping only 22 percent from last Friday to $2.3 million. Zero Dark Thirty, meanwhile, suffered a heftier 49 percent decline to $2.3 million as well. Both films are headed to weekends in the $8-9 million range, which would lift their respective totals to just under $70 million.

Jason Statham’s latest action flick Parker didn’t get any boost from the presence of Jennifer Lopez. Parker found only $2.3 million on Friday, putting it on pace for a weak $6 million opening frame. Still, that’s better than the comedy Movie 43, which opened with a disastrous $1.8 million yesterday, despite starring almost every actor and actress in Hollywood.

1. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters – $6.0 million
2. Mama – $3.8 million
3. Silver Linings Playbook – $2.3 million
4. Zero Dark Thirty – $2.3 million
5. Parker – $2.1 million
6. Movie 43 – $1.8 million

Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters has replaced Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained at the top of the Australian box office chart.

Gemma Arterton and Jeremy Renner’s new movie took over AU$2 million in its opening week to enter the standings in prime position.

Tarantino’s movie slips to third place, but still grossed just under Au$1.4 million during its third full weekend in Australian cinemas.

Two further new entries feature in the top ten – Steven Spielberg’s Academy Award-nominated historical biopic Lincoln, which debuts in fourth place, and ensemble comedy Movie 43, entering at number seven.

The box office chart for the weekend of February 7 to 10 (all figures are in Australian dollars):

1. (-) Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters – $2,217,063
2. (2) Silver Linings Playbook – $1,564,401
3. (1) Django Unchained – $1,395,465
4. (-) Lincoln – $1,335,351
5. (3) Flight – $1,062,027
6. (4) Zero Dark Thirty – $623,262
7. (-) Movie 43 – $556,836
8. (5) Life of Pi – $511,514
9. (7) Les Misérables – $491,018
10. (6) The Impossible – $485,576

All we can say is that, whatever is going on in Gemma’s private life, we hope she’s well and happy. And whatever she is or isn’t going through in her private life, we hope she doesn’t have to go through it all in the glare of the public eye. Real life is hard enough without having a camera on your face or press reporting your every move. We hope everyone lets her keep it all private. We hope we can just let her do her job, enjoy her – and support her in being the lovely Gemma we all know and love, who has given us so many brilliant moments on film and stage. The end.
