From Neil Jordan, director of INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE and THE COMPANY OF WOLVES, comes a haunting, visually sublime, unique take on ancient undead mythology. Clara is a 200-year-old vampire who works in sleazy strip clubs and prostitutes herself to support her vampire daughter, Eleanor. But this deadly duo are no ordinary vampires; Clara drains the scum of the earth and Eleanor acts as an angel of death preying on the suffering elderly. When the two daughters of darkness open up a bordello in the seedy Byzantium seaside guesthouse, shocking secrets going back through tortured centuries must be suppressed.

Details and casting have been announced for the new BBC2 series by Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, the former members of The League of Gentlemen and stars/creators of Psychoville.

Inside No9 (working title) will be an anthology of six standalone stories, each taking place in a different residence with that number, including a grand country house where a game of sardines leads to “chilling revelations in a wardrobe”, an unusually haunted house, and the flat of an apparently happy primary school teacher who “becomes the victim of a good deed”.

Appearing with Shearsmith and Pemberton in the series will be Gemma Arterton (Tess of the D’Urbervilles, Quantum of Solace), Tamsin Greig (Episodes), Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd), Anne Reid (Last Tango in Halifax), Anna Chancellor (The Hour), Julian Rhind-Tutt (A Touch of Cloth), Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones), Ben Willbond (The Thick of It) and Timothy West (Bleak House, Exile).

Filming has begun on the first block of three episodes, with another shoot planned for summer 2013 to complete the series. Read More

“This is the BAFTAs of fashion in my world,” said actress Gemma Arterton. “When we do things well, we all just want to celebrate them and pat each other on the back and why not? It’s become the main event and it’s wonderful.”

Arterton explained, “I know it’s been talked about a lot but I think Kristen Stewart is dressing so well at the moment. I love her attitude when she’s on the red carpet. She’s like [scowl] ‘this is it’. She’s the best at the moment in my opinion.”

The long-gestating Monty Python project “Absolutely Anything” is moving full steam ahead, with Gemma Arterton confirmed for the project and Benedict Cumberbatch in talks to join the comedy, TheWrap has learned.

To be directed by Terry Jones, “Absolutely Anything” will include voiceovers from Monty Python alumni, including Jones, Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin and John Cleese. Robin Williams will also do a voiceover.

Filming is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2013, with Jones directing from a script he co-wrote with Gavin Scott. Ben Timlett and Bill Jones are producing.

The story revolves around a teacher who discovers he has magical powers and can make things happen with the wave of his hand. He can wipe out classrooms of badly behaving students and bring people back to life. But he experiences mishap after mishap as he tries to learn how to use these powers.

GFM Films is handling sales of the feature. The project was first announced in 2010.

Arterton’s recent credits include “Clash of the Titans” and “Byzantium.” Cumberbatch recently signed on to play The Beatles manager Brian Epstein in “The Fifth Beatle.”

IM Global has reported a strong response to the comedy-musical Walking On Sunshine with Kylie Minogue and Gemma Arterton attached to star.

Kylie Minogue and Gemma Arterton are set to star in the 3D 1980s-fueled musical Walking on Sunshine for the UK’s Vertigo Films.

CEO Stuart Ford and president of international sales Jonathan Deckter have closed deals in: Germany (Square One), Italy (Eagle), Japan (Gaga), Russia (Paradise/MGN), Scandinavia (Nordisk) and South Korea (Entermode).

IM Global has licensed rights in: Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Czech Republic (Media Pro), Poland (Monolith), Taiwan (Applause), Hong Kong (Golden Scene), Switzerland (Impuls) and the Middle East (Gulf). EIM has taken airline rights.

Producer Vertigo Entertainment holds UK rights and talks are ongoing in other territories.

“Distributors are responding to the film’s irrepressible feel-good factor and 1980s nostalgia,” IM Global CEO Stuart Ford said. “The film also has a terrific international feel and it’s the sort of movie audiences are craving in the current global climate.”

Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini — directors of British indie hit StreetDance 3D and StreetDance 2 — are directing the film.

The Hollywood Reporter says Walking on Sunshine (set to pop hits from the 1980s), “takes place in present-day Spain in a beautiful coastal village. Amanda is getting married to the gorgeous Raf and has invited her sister, Taylor, to the wedding. Unbeknownst to Amanda, however, Raf is Taylor’s ex-holiday flame and the love of her life.”

StreetDance 3D, released in 2010, earned north of $17 million and featured debut performances by Britain’s Got Talent stars George Sampson, Diversity and Flawless. It was a production of Vertigo in association with BBC Films.

IM Global’s slate also includes The Butler, headlining Forest Whitaker; Dead Man Down, starring Colin Farrell and Noomi Rapace; Welcome the Punch, starring James McAvoy; and Before Midnight.

LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) – Kylie Minogue and Gemma Arterton are lined up to star in the upcoming musical comedy “Walking On Sunshine,” for Vertigo Films, a person familiar with the project has told TheWrap.

Now in pre-production, the film is set to be directed by Max Giwa and Dania Pasquini and is being sold at this week’s American Film Market by IM Global. Giwa and Pasquini previously directed “StreetDance 3D.”

Walking On Sunshine” is set to hit pop songs of the 1980s and tells the story of a mother and daughter who fall in love with the same man in Spain. The filmmakers brought in John O’Connell (“Moulin Rouge“) as the musical choreographer.

An Australian pop star turned actress, Minogue, could most recently be seen on the big screen in “Holy Motors,” which was in award competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Arterton has a long list of credits to her name, including “Byzantium” and “Song For Marion.”
