The Clash of the Titans sequel, which has been referred to as Wrath of the Titans but a press release today calls Clash of the Titans 2, started shooting this week under the direction of Jonathan Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles). Sam Worthington returns to star as Perseus, but it looks like Gemma Arterton‘s commitment to Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters means she definitely won’t be in the film, as her name is MIA from the release. We’ve now got a pretty full cast line-up, and a full plot for the film, after the break.

Some of the core cast is returning: Sam Worthington is Perseus; Liam Neeson is Zeus; Danny Huston is Poseidon; and Ralph Fiennes is Hades. Then Rosamund Pike plays maiden turned warrior Andromeda; Edgar Ramirez is Ares; Toby Kebbell is Argenor; and Bill Nighy is Hephaestus. The press release confirms quite a few things that have been talked about over the past couple months, such as Liam Neeson and Danny Huston returning, and the casting of Bill Nighy. Read More

According to Box Office Mojo Warner Bros. has pushed the release date of Clash of the Titans 2 back a week from March 23, 2012 to March 30, 2012. The move is likely to give the movie breathing room as in it’s old date it was up against Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games, which is edging closer to filming.

The sequel, currently titled Wrath of the Titans, sees the return of Sam Worthington as Perseus and Gemma Arterton as Io. Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes will also return as Zeus and Hades, and new addition Rosamund Pike will play Andromeda. Read More

Clash of the Titans 2‘ will be like “‘Gladiator‘ with lots of creatures”.

According to filmmaker Jonathan Liebesman, the movie – which sees Greek warriors fighting against Gods and mythical creatures – will be more “grounded” than last year’s fantasy epic starring Liam Neeson and Gemma Arterton.

He said: “It’s going to be a much more natural, gritty, grounded fantasy movie. Just think ‘Gladiator‘ with lots of creatures, I’m excited. It’s a good opportunity to do something awesome with some great actors in a great genre.”

Sam Worthington recently admitted he is “surprised” a sequel to the film was commissioned.

The Australian actor – who played the role of Perseus in the much maligned 2010 remake – is glad the original film got criticised as it means a follow-up doesn’t have to stick to the same storyline.

He said recently: “The thing is the first film we got criticised a lot for, but now the good thing about the sequel is that we are not beholden to an original story and we can learn from the mistakes of the first and hopefully improve on it.

“I mean there is a surprise that we are making a sequel because of the critical drubbing.”

Clash of the Titans 2‘ is scheduled for release in March 2012.

Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures is near a deal with Barney’s Version star Rosamund Pike to play the role of Andromeda in the Clash of the Titans sequel. Pike has been on the radar since the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day and has done a succession of indie films. Pike had been mentioned in speculative stories about who might get the lead in Zack Snyder-directed Superman films opposite Henry Cavill. Scratch her off the list, she’ll be busy in this Warner Bros film instead, which stars Sam Worthington and will be directed by Battle: Los Angeles helmer Jonathan Liebesman. Andromeda (played by Alexa Davalos in the original, who was unavailable for the sequel) is a major role and had the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow mentioned as possibles. She’s repped by UTA, Magnolia and United Agents.

Hottest Actress – Gemma Arterton

We Say: With Hollywood blockbusters (Clash Of the Titans, Prince Of Persia) a Brit com (Tamara Drewe) and the low-budget thrills of Alice Creed, no-one displayed more range in 2010. And there’s more to come…

You Say: “She’s clearly in demand for big Hollywood movies but still does stuff like The Disappearance of Alice Creed, which she was great in. I think she’s the most interesting actress out there right now.” Simon Clements, Newquay Read More

Gemma Arterton was chosen the Hottest Actress of the year by Total Film magazine and talked exclusively about her upcoming projects!

“Thank you so much for this award. I’m very flattered and thrilled — I saw the shortlist, so I know I was in good company. This year’s been intense, but next year’s going to be… intenser! [Laughs] I’m attached to about nine projects but I’m not sure which one I am allowed to talk about… but I’m aiming for even more diversity. Capa [biopic about combat photographer Robert Capa] is confirmed, so I should be working with Andrew Garfield! [Garfield will play Capa, Arterton his partner, Gerda Taro, the first female photojournalist to cover a war front line] and there’s Clash of the Titans 2… And hopefully I’ll be working with Michael Winterbottom on London Fields and then there’s… no, I’d better stop. You’ll get me into trouble! Thanks for the award!”

Big thanks to Lorna! :D
