DAILY MAIL – To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the prestigious Olivier Awards next week, we went backstage to catch theatreland’s leading ladies in these intimate images before curtain up

‘Everyone is so respectful of everyone else. It’s all of us together, and I have never been involved in a company like that. There’s this real energy. Last night I looked around when we were singing “Stand Up” and everyone was clapping – I got a bit emotional.’ (source)

METRO.CO.UKSport Relief 2016 had no shortage of highlights – but it was the return of legendary sitcom character Frank Spencer which had everybody talking.

The character – played by Michael Crawford in the series Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em – returned for a sketch which saw him rudely interrupt Sir Bradley Wiggins’ attempts to break a record at the Lee Valley Velo-Park.

Cue plenty of frenetic physical comedy that fans of the original series will be all too familiar with – not to mention the return of Michele Dotrice as wife Betty and Gemma Arterton as their now grown-up daughter Jessica (who speaks exactly like her hapless dad). (source)

A couple of stills from the sketch have now been added to the gallery, enjoy! :)

EMPIRE – Forget the Triffids, Ophiocordyceps unilateral is the botanical peril to worry about in The Girl With All The Gifts. It’s the fungus that reduces the populace to zombies – or ‘hungries’ – in the new adaptation of M. R. Carey’s apocalyptic tale. Here’s two first-look images to sink your teeth into.

Worse than a mere zombie virus, the fungus offers another means to pass on the flesh-craving, brain-numbed state. So not only do you have to avoid drooling lurchers, you have to steer well clear of the vegetation too. Trying coping with that, Rick Grimes.

What’s left of the British population, now hunkered down in London, tries to find a cure from a single, intriguing anomaly: a group of children who have developed into a hybridised half-human, half-zombie state. Glenn Close’s cold-eyed Dr. Caldwell experiments on them to find a cure for the pathogen.

Gemma Arterton, tooled up to the nines with Paddy Considine’s Sergeant Parks in the first picture, is Miss Justineau, a teacher who’s formed a bond with Melanie, one of the kids. She’s a special child blessed with skills that will be tested when she, Justineau, Parks and Caldwell are forced to survive in a hostile landscape.

The Girl With All The Gifts was shot in the UK last May with Peaky Blinders’ Colm McCarthy behind the camera. It gets its UK release on September 9. (source)

BBC NEWS – More than 300 years after Nell Gwynn became one of the first women to appear on the London stage, the actress playing her in a West End production has said there’s still sexism in the film industry and it “needs to change”.

“There are loads of them out there, they’re just not being given the opportunity to do what they want to do, or being given the money to do what they want to do,” she said. (source)
