Gemma Arterton’s a goddess in Tess’s tale
Calling her a “nature goddess”, the BBC is pursuing girl of the moment Gemma Arterton to star as Thomas Hardy’s earthy heroine Tess of the D’Urbervilles.
The 22-year-old actress is currently shooting the new James Bond film, Quantum Of Solace, on locations in Panama with 007 Daniel Craig. Gemma’s playing the kick-boxing Agent Fields.

The first teaser poster for the 22nd James Bond film Quantum of Solace has been officially unveiled.
Released by AOL and 007.com, the teaser poster features the shadow of James Bond. It shows 007 in a similar pose to which he ended the previous film Casino Royale, whilst interrogating Mr White. The new film will start moments later. Solace picks up a mere 20 minutes after Casino Royale concludes, making it the first direct sequel in ‘Bond’ film history.
AOL Moviefone has also released a new behind-the-scenes video. You can watch it here. Gemma can be seen towards the end. I obviously made captures of her brief appearance.

Empire, the UK’s largest movie magazine, has the final shortlist up for their annual awards. While plenty of magazines give out annual awards, the Empire ones are pretty professional – readers vote in the categories and there is a proper awards ceremony which often attracts some very famous faces.
St Trinian’s star (and now future Bond girl) Gemma Arterton is nominated in the Best Newcomer category.

Introducing… Gemma Arterton, the New Bond Girl
Gemma Arterton might be beautiful, talented and one of Britain’s brightest acting hopes but I don’t think she’s got what it takes to make it as a diva. She’s just too normal. ‘I still have student debts to pay off,’ says the 22-year-old, who recently beat 1,500 nubile hopefuls to become the newest Bond Girl. ‘I think I’ve used most of my earnings buying bits and bobs from Primark.’
With hundreds of millions of dollars at stake, you can see why the studios and producers behind the James Bond films want to keep plot and cast details under wraps for as long as possible.
Some cast members are finding levels of secrecy befitting a super spy somewhat scary, however.

I’ve scanned another British magazine from last year featuring the fabulous girls of St Trinian’s. There were no interviews, but an article about girl power, rebellion, and never seen before cast photos.
