Gemma Arterton attended the UNICEF UK Halloween Ball hosted by Jemima Khan, raising vital funds for UNICEF’s work for children affected by the current Syria crisis, at One Mayfair on October 31, 2013 in London, England. All money raised for Unicef from today – and for the next three months – will be matched pound for pound by the UK Government to help the children of Syria. Text ‘Syria’ to 70007 to give £5 to help UNICEF reach even more children caught up in the crisis.

Vampire, nurse and zombie bride are all popular choices when it comes to Halloween outfits for women.

But Gemma Arterton opted to keep things simple as she attended The UNICEF Halloween Ball at One Mayfair in London on Thursday night.

Instead of a tacky fancy dress option, Gemma wowed in a stunning backless negligee-dress as she made a stylish appearance at the annual event.

The 27-year-old actress showed off her enviable curves in the black gown, which clung to her figure in all the right places.

Adding something of a spooky twist to her look, Gemma teamed the dress with a smoky silver eye, which gave her overall ensemble an ethereal quality.

Gemma looked calm and collected as she posed up on the red carpet at the charity bash, after admitting in an interview earlier this year that she credits her mother Sally-Anne for giving her confidence to do anything with her life.

She told The Sun: ‘I have to thank my mother for giving me confidence. She brought up me and my sister on her own and never talked about any problems. I really appreciate how one woman could work hard and be a great mum at the same time.

‘My mum Sally worked at two jobs, as a cleaner and seamstress … I am no campaigning feminist, but just seeing her set an example makes me convinced that women can do anything so long as they have belief in themselves.

‘Her ability to look after and protect my sister and myself made us always feel optimistic about life. It allowed me to make decisions, both good and bad, and not feel restricted.’

Gemma Arterton is to return to Shakespeare’s Globe in The Duchess of Malfi next year.

She will play the title role in the show, which will be the first production in the London venue’s new 340-seat indoor theatre, the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse.

Arterton made her professional stage debut at the venue as Rosaline in a production of Love’s Labour’s Lost in 2007.

The Duchess of Malfi will run from January 9 to February 16, 2014. It is directed by the Globe’s artistic director Dominic Dromgoole.

Arterton said: “To play the Duchess of Malfi in a magical new theatre seemed an irresistible opportunity for me. I am thrilled to be coming back to Shakespeare’s Globe where I made my stage debut and I really look forward to the adventure of performing in such an intimate and wonderful space.”

The House of Photography at the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg, Germany, provided the backdrop for the presentation of the 2014 ZEISS Art Calendar on 21 October 2013. Mary McCartney staged the calendar under the theme “Moments in the City.” The photographer with the big name and expressive imagery accompanied Hollywood stars Alec Baldwin and Gemma Arterton as they experienced very special moments in New York City. In Manhattan the protagonist from The Aviator, Getaway and Blue Jasmine (a Woody Allen production) and the actress from the James Bond flick Quantum of Solace and action film Hansel and Gretel wallowed in the magic of the metropolis and imbibed the charm of outstanding sites and locations.

In scenes that focus on the very special atmosphere of each individual location, Mary McCartney shows how the couple is bewitched by these fascinating surroundings: in the aura exuded by the Metropolitan Museum or at the top of the Empire State Building.

“The striking photographs by Mary McCartney enchant the viewer with their astounding clarity and discrete intensity. They make a strong impression in this fifth issue of our art calendar series,” says Jörg Nitschke, Head of Corporate Communications.

The ZEISS Art Calendar is devoted exclusively to the customers and friends of the company. It was for them, and them only, that it was created by the artist, only they will receive it as a limited edition – underscoring how highly the company values its customers and those special moments linking it with them.
